Perth Drag Queens – A Great Part of Your Next Event

A showstopper, or a party starter?

Whichever way you want to see drag queens as, we assure you and your guests will love the experience.

Remember Dame Edna?  Australia’s most memorable drag queen, with the purple hair, the big glasses and the “hello possums” greeting? The greeting that would have a crowd of thousands glued to her show?

Well, it’s fair to say that Dame Edna did not only build her own legacy but created a global stage. A stage that has turned drag queen performances into a great addition for parties and a fun way to entertain a crowd.

Sure, different queens have different performances. Dame’s goes all the way back to the 1950’s and since then has opened the door to millions of queens around the world.

While at Hollywood Entertainment, most of our clients know us for our male stripper performances and topless male waiters, we also have our drag queen ready to go.

But before we look at how our Perth drag queen will be the life of your party, it’s worth understanding a little more about what drag queens and drag queen shows really are.

What are drag queens

Typically a male, a drag queen uses makeup, female clothing and often an exaggerated look. All this is part of a show. The term ‘drag’, believe it or not, goes all the way back to the 1870’s. Since then, plenty has been said, written, and covered about this great way of entertainment, and fair to say, is extremely popular today. Perth itself has several clubs that specifically offer drag queen shows, a testament to the growth in popularity such performances have experienced over the years.

And the drag queen parties?

Well, they are certainly common around the world and weren’t invented yesterday. It is believed that the first person to describe himself as a drag queen was William Dorsey Swann in the U.S who was known for hosting drag balls and parties in the 1880’s in Washington, DC.

And today?

Well, we mentioned how common they are. And, what a fun addition it can be to a party. So our team at Hollywood Entertainment are ready to help take your party to the next level.

The art of drag

One of the common questions regarding drag queens is how they choose their name. indeed, an interesting question as that too is somewhat a process that was evolved over the years. Often a drag queen may just pick a name she likes, but often, the name is given to them by a friend, also known as a ‘drag mother’. In that case, the queen who was given the name, is then known as the drag daughter. Like in many other jobs and industries, learning the required skills can take some time. As a result, the queen mother becomes a mentor figure for the queen daughter.

While choosing a name is not always a simple process, getting into character can take hours. Whether the drag queen is aiming for a certain style, message with her looks, or a unique expression, every detail is thought about.

How does it work

Imagine you and your friends chatting, eating, drinking, and enjoying a great evening of catching up. Just taking a break from the day-to-day routine. All of a sudden, the queen walks into the room and simply takes that party to the next level.

She can host your event, take part in any games you had planned for the evening, take photos with you and your guests, and will do a one song performance to the music and song you will discuss prior to the event.

Your party can involve one queen or more, that’s entirely up to you. We understand that each party is different. So are the crowd. So, while we have many options, we want to make sure we customise it to your vision.

Over the years we have heard many ideas and worked with hundreds of parties, creating unforgettable memories. So, we look forward to hearing from you and providing any information that will help create a best party ever.
